What should you blog about?

One of the worthy readers (Alex) prompted me to write this.

In my humble opinion, all subjects are open provided they conform to the legal requirements and terms of use (in case of a blog host like blogspot.com).

Typically, a blog is a web log and as such the subject matter has to flow through the entire blog or say in other words, it is multi-dimensional view of a multi-facetted topic where you write as you go and you continue within the broad topic. For example, I wanted to write about "the informed women" and have created a separate blog for the subject.

Those who want to monetize the blog, have to, in addition, look at ways and means to attract traffic to the blog. That means it should be of interest to people or "audience" that you want to attract. If the content is unique, you have a better chance of succeeding in doing so. Prompt and regular updates are necessary for readers as well as search engine ranking.

Looking at all those aspects, a blog would be and could be started and continued on a topic of your interest or research. You can do it alone or with friends.

Monetize your Blog

You should commercialize/monetize your blog only if you think it to be right! Some people think it to be evil and have very strong feelings about it.

How much can one expect?

• An income of four figures to five figures is attainable depending purely on your own input. Take this as a second job but no boss. You are the boss. Make your decisions and be responsible for them. You will have to be genuinely interested and motivated. You have to be interested in it (the blog and the material you present) before you can expect someone else to visit your blog. Most of the people who start quickly fail because of lack of tenacity or clarity about what needs to be done. About 33% of the blogs are written about personal stuff.

What do I need?

• Blog savy -- know some blog software
• HTML
• CSS
• RSS
• Feed aggregators
• Pings
• Trackbacks
  
• You should have "hunger" for technology related to blogs and blogging. This is an ever growing field. Only the best can survive.
  
• You should submit your site for Search Engine Optimizing. There are free tools available.
• You should submit your blog to blog carnivals.

What streams of income can be expected?

• Adsense by Google
• Affiliate programs including Amazon
• Chitika eMiniMalls
• Selling individual space for a fixed period like a week / fortnight / month
• Text Links for fixed amounts
• Donations

Be sincere in effort and work hard with determination - results will follow.

Blog Made Easy

This is a blog intended to talk about blogging and blogs.

If you are new, this may be the place for you to book mark or add to your favorites. It can be even more interesting because I would like to invite you to share your knowledge and experiences with blogs or blog development or even finding your expression for this ever growing field, for the benefit of those who may follow. You may include the tools or tool sets used to achieve.

Having set the agenda, I will start with the initial post:

I did know about blogs and blogging but did not start writing till this time. I have been browsing others blogs and have found very detailed to very sketchy blogs on a wide range of topics. Going a little deeper, I realize that the most blogs are being created for commercial purposes by big publishers on the web. A second category of commercial users are revenue seeking blogs using Google’s Adsense or Yahoo’s ads. A third category is the academic blogs where at times the blog would read like a research paper. A fourth category that I found where personal blogs have been created. In nutshell you have blogs for:

Ø Academic work
Ø Personal expression

Where to start the blog?

Undisputedly, the best would be to go to http://www.blogspot.com/ and hit the “create your blog now” arrow button and follow it. In minutes you could have your blog created and you can start writing your own blog. This is free. You do not have to pay anything to anyone. You have to follow the decency standards and you will be fine. For most the start itself would be the biggest thing. So, let’s start.
